This automotive repair guide is specifically for the 2003-2009 4th generation Toyota 4Runner map light bulb replacement. The map light assembly is similar and requires the same OEM 168 wedge style bulb. This DIY guide is intended to show you how to change the burnt out front interior bulb that stopped working in a Toyota 4Runner in just a few easy steps.

The map light bulb for the 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 Limited and SR5 models is the same. The map light is located in the front of the vehicle behind the rear view mirror mounted on the head liner near the windshield and in front of the sunroof or moon roof if you have one. In order to remove the overhead light lens cover you will need to insert a small flat head screwdriver into the small slots in the front or rear of the map light lens cover. You can gently pry off the lens cover assembly from the map light housing, be careful how much pressure you use and do not twist the screwdriver because it will scratch your reading light cover. The map light cover is held on by small C-clamp style retention clips that pop the light cover on and off.

Once you remove the Toyota 4Runner map light lens cover you can pull the map light bulb out from the interior light assembly with your fingers.

The original OEM Toyota map light bulb part number is a 168 mini wedge halogen bulb manufactured by companies like Sylvania, AC Delco, Silverstar and GE. Once you have removed the old burnt out map light bulb you can replace it with a new light bulb by pushing the bulb into the map light assembly. Replace the plastic map light cover by lining up the C-clips with the assembly and gently snapping them into place.
Test Working Map Light
Test your new map light bulb after you have replaced the cover to make sure it works.
